Chemical spill kits, also known as Hazchem spill kits, are ideal for warehouses, factories, hospitals, laundries, laboratories, workshops, mine sites, and other industrial settings. These portable, long-lasting, high-visibility kits can be brought directly to a spill.

Industrial facilities, mines, workshops, warehouses, factories, hospitals, laundry facilities, and laboratories can all use Hazchem spill kits. These spill kits are made to be portable and contained in wheelie bins so they can be moved directly to the nearest spill.

With chemical spill kits, you can deal with aggressive acids and bases (alkalis), paint, solvents, oils, fuels, coolants, degreasers, herbicides, and pesticides to name a few.

The absorbents in Spill Station Spill Kits are made of polypropylene, and they can absorb liquid up to 20 times their weight. This surface-modified polypropylene is dust-free, and inert, and does not degrade or chemically react with any liquids it absorbs.

Controlling the spread of any hazardous chemicals that have been spilt is the fundamental step in dealing with chemical spills. If you are non-compliant with spills, you can end up fined as per the Australian Standard. In addition to the above, your staff must be routinely trained in the use of these spill kits, and the spill kits must be properly maintained.

FAQ

What is a chemical spill kit?

A chemical spill kit is a specialised set of materials and tools made to clean up hazardous materials safely and effectively. A chemical spill kit will help you clean not only chemicals but also acids and alkalis, from minor spills to major leaks.

Why do I need to use a chemical spill kit?

The quick answer is just safety. But the truth is that many workplaces in manufacturing, transporting or processing hazardous liquids, can result in spills that can then pollute the air, environment and facility floors, making the situation dangerous. In the event of this spill occurring, a spill kit is a quick and easy way to handle the spill without compromising anyone’s safety. In addition to this, it is a necessity in the eyes of Australian law for employees to protect workers and the environment.

Can chemical spills be handled with these spill kits?

The answer to the question of “chemical spills” really depends on the substance that was spilt. Assessing the spilt substance is the first step in determining how to clean it up. Is the spill only oil-based? Does the spill contain oil- and water-based liquids? What chemicals are involved in the spill, and if so, which ones? This knowledge is imperative and if you need help with training, contact Spill Station’s team of experts for help.

How do I use the spill kit?

These are the general steps to follow when cleaning up a spill.

  2. Wear PPE (personal protective equipment) correctly.
  3. Use signage to alert for the spill.
  4. Contain the spilt liquid with absorbents.
